The Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern has shown real leadership after the Christchurch attack at the mosque on 15th March 2019.The terror which ended in 51 deaths has resulted in a massive regulation of the gun system and the banning of auto riffle and military weapons. Jacinda Ardern has also provided true leadership and insight in asking social media companies in blocking hate media from spreading on the internet. This week, Jacinda Ardern met with the French President Emmanuel Macron in discussing issues relating with the spread of hate speech on the internet and how the two countries can help stop them. Her actions has received international praises for showing real leadership in stopping terrorism.

There is a stalemate in Sudan after the coup that ousted the former strong man Omar al-Bashir. The Head of the Military Transition Council and de facto leader Gen. Abdel Fattah Abdul-Rrahman Burhan has said that the negotiations for the transfer of power from the military to a civilian government will only occur after all the barricades have been removed. The military have used every method to strong arm the demonstrators from the streets of the Khartoum but they have all proved futile. They are still in the streets weeks after the fall of Omar al-Bashir and will not back down until a properly constituted civilian -government is put in place.

There was also terror this week as unidentified assailants killed 6 Christians including a catholic priest in northern Burkina Faso. Nobody or group has claimed responsibility for this heinous crime but this kind of attacks have been increasing in the country. The Libyan strongman Gen. Khalifa Haftar will next week meet the French president Emmanuel macron to talk about the war in Libya. The talks are necessary for the French government to decide whether to keep supporting him. General Khalifa Haftar and his Libyan national army based in Sirte in the east of the oil rich country have continue their onslaught into the capital Tripoli where the UN backed government headed by Fayez al-Sarraj is based. Gen. Haftar also receive considerable support from the US .Meanwhile, the shelling has resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands’ more have lost their homes.

President Donald J. Trump inauguration a new policy on immigration that places more emphasis on skills and competencies than on family. At the press conference , Donald trump said that it is important that those immigrating to the US have a good level of education and the requisite skills to help develop the US economy than policies based on the fact that immigrant should be accepted into the US because they already have family there. The Democratic Speaker of Congress Nancy Pelosi said that the move was condescending and that this act is helping to advance to advance the hateful agenda by denying citizenship to children abroad. The reception to the policy was not different to other Democratic who said that they will support such a move and it is dead on arrival.

US President also this week made it clear that Huawei is a threat to the intelligence community of the US. He later labelled them as a threat and banned them from participating in the 5G technology. Trump also called it a national emergency because they accuse the Chinese tech giant of building back door so that they can send intel to their home country China. The US government has also issued threats to it allies and warned them against dealing with the Chinese tech giant. The Chinese government has also warned the US against the actions taken against Huawei and that it will results in economic actions in order to protect it company.
China acted retaliatory in imposing tariffs goods coming to the country from US. This week they announced tariffs worth more than $60 billion on goods from the US as trade talks with the US broke down. Donald Trump and the US Treasury last week imposed the tariffs on Chinese goods and latter warned China not to retaliate. As we made it clear in the news last week, it was just a matter of time before the Chinese take action and they did take decisive action. What the US does not realise is that they do not hold all the cards with regards with trade with China and that China is a formidable foe and imposing tariffs on Chinese goods and the Chinese counteracting them will not help the US in achieving the balance of trade results that they want.

Iran is not going to war with the US, that is according to Hassan Rouhnai and Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iranian President and Foreign Minister. They also said that they have not abandoned the Iran Nuclear Agreement yet they are enriching their uranium and deserting some parts of the agreement. This is because the US redrew from the agreement and have imposed economic sanctions on Iranian oil and metals. This week Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State met with Sergey Lavrov and Vladimir Putin, Russian Foreign Minister and President on how to destroy the agreement completely. But the response was that Russia still believes that the agreement is credible and Iran has not violated it and that it should stand. He also met Jeremy Hunt, British Foreign Secretary about the same issue and the response was as it was earlier. Mr Pompeo also met EU foreign leaders and though he made it clear that they should all ditch the agreement, the EU did not miss words in telling him that the agreement still holds and that they would do everything to keep the already fragile agreement from falling apart completely. What is clear is that all the other signatories to the agreement except the US (and it allies in Saudi Arabia, Isreal and United Arab Emirates) want the deal to stay but whether they have the financial might to keep the deal in place is another thing. The US also said that they don’t want a war with Iran but there is a contradiction between what it says and what it does. For example, they removed some staff from Iraq because Iran is planning an attack on Iraq. There was also an attack on United Arab Emirates (UAE) vessel carrying oil and immediately without any investigation, the attack was blamed on Iran. That is the level of mistrust among these nations.

After multiple times of disappointment and the humiliation in the House of Commons and not having her Brexit deal passed, British Prime Minister Theresa May will be put out of her misery when she resigns. The problem is that she can only resign after her deal is passed and since she has failed spectacularly at that, one wonders whether we will see the back of her. There are reports that the Torries have agreed on her exit date and they are already jostling for the soon to be come vacant role. Among the people who have shown interest is the former Foreign Secretary and Mayor of London, Borris Johnson. If you have to remove Theresa May and replace her with Borris Johnson, then lets keep the incompetent May like that.

The war in Yemen seems to be over and yet as parties reach any ceasefire deal, they are rekindled again and agaian and again. This week the Saudi and UAE backed rebels attacked and bombed civilians resulting in multiple casualties.. it was because they retaliated to an attark already carried out by the HOUTHI BACKED SIDE.
